10th EHFCN Open House on 13 & 14 June 2019 hosted by NZa in Utrecht (The Netherlands)

On 13 and 14 June 2019, the European Healthcare Fraud and Corruption Network (EHFCN), supported by the Dutch Healthcare Authority (NZa), organized the 10th EHFCN Open House on the theme ‘Behind the scenes of innovative healthcare supervision’.

Indeed, the world is changing and so is the way we regulate and supervise our healthcare sector. Social and political circumstances force us to continuously enhance and innovate our regulatory and supervisory role.

In this two-day even, the NZa took members and invitees on a journey through time and risk-based supervision. What started five years ago by developing specific strategies and imposing the highest administrative fine for a healthcare provider in Dutch history, has finally resulted in self regulation for nearly all hospitals in the Netherlands. A multidisciplinary approach and a lot of creativity enabled us to achieve these results. But our work does not stop here; there are new challenges ahead of us. What is the role of data and how can we promote good governance of health care providers?

This Open House was an interactive conference with inspiring new methods and ideas to share.

At an Open House event, an EHFCN Member opens its doors for other members and invitees. The Open House provides the possibility of learning from each other about counter fraud practices and exchange expertise.

The Dutch Healthcare Authority (NZa) is an autonomous administrative authority, falling under the Dutch Ministry of Health, Welfare and Sport (VWS). The NZa has over 400 employees.

The NZa protects the interests of citizens with regard to accessibility, affordability, and quality of health care in the Netherlands. With that in mind, the NZa sets rules, regulates health care providers and health insurers, and gives advice to the Ministry of Health, Welfare and Sport (VWS).
