The aim of EHFCN is to improve European healthcare systems by reducing losses to fraud and corruption
Objectives
The objectives of EHFCN are to support its members and associate entities in their work in order to:
- create a real anti-fraud and anti-corruption culture within healthcare systems including service providers, medical suppliers, fee payers, users and ultimately all European citizens.
- deter those who engage in acts of fraud and corruption within the healthcare sector;
- prevent fraudulent or corrupt activities;
- improve detection systems to help identify occurrences of healthcare fraud and corruption;
- conduct investigations in all cases of detected or alleged healthcare fraud and corruption;
- impose, where healthcare fraud and corruption is proven, appropriate sanctions (i.e. criminal, civil and/or disciplinary ones) where possible;
- seek financial redress in respect of resources and assets lost to fraud and corruption
- ensure the return of recovered resources and assets to the areas for which they were intended, particularly patient care or services.
Type of activities
The network will pursue these objectives by:- increasing public awareness;
- promoting the share of good practice, joint work and development of common working standards among its members;
- providing information, tools, training and assistance in fighting fraud and corruption to its members;
- collaborating with European and national bodies who have an influence on healthcare in Europe, such as the European Union and its affiliates and agencies, the Council of Europe, the World Health Organisation, the United Nations and other public entities or private agencies.
