Paul Vincke in the Serbian daily newspaper Alo
No EU until the corruption is fixed!
"As long as the problem of corruption is not solved, Serbia cannot become a member of the European Union", said Paul Vincke yesterday, president of the European Healthcare Fraud & Corruption Network (EHFCN).
- "EU countries will not allow candidates to become members if they cannot clean up their act first" - Vincke said at a round table of the " Doctors Against Corruption". Warning that the European Commission will soon begin evaluating the results in the fight against corruption in all European countries, including Serbia, Vincke has called on the Serbian government to "move from words to deeds" and do everything it can to combat this problem.
- All European countries are facing fraud and corruption in healthcare, but the nature of the problem in Serbia is specific and unique, the corruption is incorporated in an outdated monolithic health system. It is not transparent an denies the existence of abuse. Therefore, it is necessary to change the whole system and make it accountable and incorruptible - concluded Vincke.
The coordinator of the association "Doctors Against Corruption" Drasko Karađinović said that the European healthcare system is losing about 5.6 percent of the budget through fraud and corruption, while this percentage in Serbia is higher than 20 percent.”
