Dentist defrauds Belgian healthcare system for 1 million Euros
A Belgian dentist stands accused of fraud, forgery and insolvency.
Without the curiosity of a patient who was denied a reimbursement, the fraudulent actions of a dentist in Verviers may not have been brought to light.
The patient went to Eric Nisoli, the practitioner who had used his identity to bill for care he had not provided and to seek clarification. For further explanation, the patient contacted Inami/Riziv, the Belgian National Institute for Health and Disability Insurance, who began to monitor the dentist's actions.
Upon further investigation, facts show that from January 2005 until August 2009, an estimated amount of 1 million Euros was defrauded by the dentist.
