EHFCN launches new website
The European Healthcare Fraud and Corruption Network (EHFCN) announced today the launch of its new website – www.ehfcn.org. EHFCN is the only European organisation dedicated to combating fraud and corruption in the healthcare sector across Europe.
The objective of EHFCN is to create a real anti-fraud and anti-corruption culture within healthcare systems including service providers, medical suppliers, fee payers, users and ultimately all European citizens. While the network represents member organisations involved in the fight against healthcare fraud and corruption at national or local level, the activities of the network include collaborating with European, international and national bodies which have an influence on healthcare in Europe.
“The EHFCN website should serve as the reference site and as the meeting place for its members who can share information as well as exchange best practices on the secure part of the website, but it should also function as the landing site for people interested to know more about the topic and who look for data about the extent and the impact of healthcare fraud and corruption,” said Paul Vincke, President of EHFCN.
Between 30 and 80 billion Euros are lost to healthcare fraud and corruption every year in the European Union; this represents a potential that is too great to ignore. By recovering resources lost to healthcare fraud and corruption and by preventing it from happening, EHFCN and its members aim at producing savings which can be re-injected into healthcare systems in order to improve them and in the end better patients' care.
The new EHFCN website will allow to further develop content and to provide information to a wider audience; whilst members remain a priority, the aim is to reach other people involved in healthcare, decision-makers as well as healthcare providers and their representative organisations such as physicians' colleges and nurses organisations, health insurance funds, and ultimately patients themselves.
“Although some parts of the website are still under construction, among others the extranet which will only be available in a few weeks' time, we wanted to bring this website live in order to provide new information and easier navigation,” said Anne Pierson, Office Manager at EHFCN. “We expect that the new website will be an incentive for our members to come together and create further input and a place where all people will find information about EHFCN activities such as its Annual Conference, trainings and seminars and its awareness campaign”
EHFCN is holding its Annual Conference in Edinburgh, Scotland, on 6-7 October 2009, under the theme of “Cross-border Healthcare in Europe: A Gateway to Fraud and Corruption?”. Its awareness campaign is launched every year on the International Anti-Corruption Day on 9 December.
“We are keen to develop the website so that it becomes the only reference and an exciting place for all stakeholders involved in the fight against healthcare fraud and corruption”, said Anne Pierson.
